Celebrating our Portfolio Management Office on International PMO Day

Every successful project has people working behind the scenes to make sure it stays on track, on budget and on target. At UKSBS, that's our Portfolio Management Office – and today, on International PMO Day, we're celebrating the team and the difference they make.

From small beginnings to a growing team

What started as a two-person operation has grown into a skilled team of almost ten portfolio management professionals, supporting projects and programmes right across the organisation. Over the years, the team has built the frameworks, tools and governance structures that underpin how UKSBS delivers change – and that foundation continues to strengthen with every project completed.

Delivering complex change

Parhana Simi, PMO Support Officer standout achievements has been its involvement in Sharp, a significant systems programme within the organisation. Team members were among the first to gain hands-on experience with the new technology before going on to train colleagues during the initial rollout. It was challenging work, but it forged strong relationships across teams and demonstrated what the PMO does best: enabling others to succeed.

Investing in people

The PMO's commitment to developing talent is reflected in its apprenticeship programme. This year, that commitment was formally recognised with Tamsin Timmers, PMO Analyst winning the 2026 Apprentice Manager Award – an achievement that speaks to the culture of learning and growth the team has built.

Team members also speak with pride about supporting and mentoring newer colleagues. Sam Mitchell, Apprentice PMO Support Officer described his highlight of the year as helping to train the PMO's newest member and watching them quickly add real value to the team.

Recognised for the right reasons

Across the team, people are being recognised for how they show up every day. Octavia Durrant, Project Support Officer, was honoured through the Neo Programme for stepping up, taking on extra responsibility and supporting those around them. Nickita Dias, PMO Support Officer, has also been recognised for their contribution and the positive impact they bring to the team. Ellie Fernandes, PMO Analyst, has been praised for calm, positive leadership in fast-moving and complex environments – exactly the kind of steady hand that effective project management needs.

A team built to last

Perhaps the most telling measure of the team's success is this: James Wood, PMO Analyst is approaching 14 years with UKSBS. In a field where professionals are in high demand, that kind of longevity speaks volumes about the culture, the work and the people.

This International PMO Day, we're proud to recognise a team that quietly and consistently makes delivery possible – and the individuals within it who bring skill, dedication and genuine pride to everything they do.
