Overview

UKSBS has expanded its Data as a Service work with the ICS People Analytics and Data Management Services (DMS) teams, following earlier success supporting the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ) and the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology (DSIT).

When more than standard reports are needed, we work with clients to understand their needs and, using our data model, provide a secure route for the right data to be available whenever they need it.

The challenge

The ICS People Analytics team needed a faster, more reliable way to bring together different data sources. Speed and accuracy matter especially when responding to Parliamentary Questions and Freedom of Information requests. Their goal was to combine UKSBS data with their own to build a fuller picture of their organisation.

What we did

Working closely with the Data Management Services team, UKSBS established a real time connection between source systems and their data lake and worked with their architecture to provide the exact data they required, available as they needed it. This removed the time-consuming need to manually extract and filter data before loading it into their data lake for analysis. It reduced the risks and ensured the team always had access to high-quality, up to date data.

The results

The ICS People Analytics team can now combine UKSBS data with their own datasets more quickly and with greater confidence. This supports faster responses to PQs and FOIs, and better day-to-day insight into their organisation. The same infrastructure is also helping to prepare for an upcoming data migration.

Ranjan Arora, Matrix Data Lead for DSIT and DESNZ, said:

"It enables us to conduct HR analytics with enhanced efficiency, respond to Parliamentary Questions and Freedom of Information requests more promptly and accurately, and supports data cleansing ahead of our migration."

What's next

This work builds on what we developed with DESNZ and shows how a well-designed data solution can deliver value across multiple needs, including routine reporting, compliance and readying for organisational change. As our clients' needs evolve, so does our approach.
