Who we are and what we do
UK SBS is a public sector mutual, owned by our shareholding customers; the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) and UK Research and innovation (UKRI). We deliver a range of business services designed to enable our customers to focus on their front line delivery while we provide expertise and excellent service for the functional parts of their business. We bring a commercial approach to the public sector but we are not for profit.
Our aim is to help our customers improve efficiency, generate savings and modernise. We offer service expertise across HR and payroll, finance, procurement, IT, and transition.
The Company was formally registered in 2007 as RCUK Shared Services Centre Ltd.
Initially wholly owned and established by the seven UK Research Councils in a drive for greater efficiency and harmonisation of processes, the Company was also part owned by other customers including the Department for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy (BEIS). More recently, with the formation of UKRI, we now have two owners BEIS and UKRI.
In 2013 RCUK Shared Services Centre Ltd became UK Shared Business Services Ltd in order to reflect its expanded client base and growing service offering.
