I joined UK SBS’ HR Service Delivery Pensions Administration Team in 2018 after thirty years in HM Revenue and Customs. My transferrable skills were recognised, and since then I’ve taken every opportunity to develop pensions expertise. I now manage a small team, which is a new and rewarding experience.
Stretching, and learning new skills
Coming to team line management for the first time in my fifties - especially since this was during lockdown and remote working - has been a very positive challenge.
The team works closely with others to make sure that tight deadlines are met, which is critical for all UK SBS’ clients. Attention to detail to make sure we get it right first time is a skill I have developed across my working life, so I’ve drawn on that, and I’ve always valued reading instructional material. The pleasant and friendly support of my colleagues helped me settle in and find my feet quickly when I was new, and I feel able to ask for help and advice from other teams. This relaxed and approachable atmosphere enables us on the Pensions Team to develop our knowledge.
I find leading a team rewarding, and one of the best aspects of my working life is the mix of people, including younger colleagues across UK SBS, which is energising.
