Chief Executive Officer - Richard Semple
Richard joined UK SBS in 2018 after thirty three years as a Royal Engineer and senior officer in the British Army. In addition to strategic and policy development roles in the Ministry of Defence, he has spent much of his career with responsibility for the delivery of the Army’s engineering and information services across the world. Most recently, as a general officer, he held board level responsibilities for the Army’s equipment fleets, logistics and support services and as the Army’s first Chief Information Officer, he increased information exploitation and directed digital transformation across the organisation. As a technology leader with extensive experience in directing operations and complex programs, Richard brings a valuable insight to UK SBS to maximise the potential of future shared services .
Strategy Director - John Arnott
After an early career in banking, John spent 20 years in senior HR roles for HSBC Bank plc. After leaving HSBC, John has been HR Director of Vaultex UK Ltd, an outsourced supplier of cash management services owned by HSBC and Barclays, and of the 140 hotel group Millennium & Copthorne plc. John joined UK SBS in 2014, initially in an HR role and then as Corporate Services Director. With the creation of UK Research & Innovation in 2018 John was seconded to establish their HR function, as Chief People Officer. John returned to UK SBS in 2019 as Strategy Director. He is a graduate of Loughborough University (BSc, Banking & Finance) and a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development.
Business Change Executive - Jacqui White
After starting her career in retail management, Jacqui moved into local government and spent 25 years working in a variety of roles, including establishing Shared Services and implementing SAP for Wiltshire Council. Since 2014, Jacqui has worked in the Research Councils, initially in BBSRC working on the Office of the Future Programme, and more recently in RCUK leading the Change Programme and working with BEIS to establish the UKRI Programme Management Office.
Chief Technology Officer - Mike Rendall
Since 2012, Mike has been CTO at UK SBS overseeing major ERP stabilisation projects, improvements in the proactive management of IT security and Service Management processes. Mike has over 30 years of IT experience, spanning both Public and Private sectors. He has held a range of roles within Barclays Bank PLC, Cable & Wireless and Dell Inc. which include application development, infrastructure support; supplier management; and leading offshoring programmes. Mike has also supported NHS and Education contracts including the Building Schools for the Future programme and developed IT strategies for major universities.
Chief Operating Officer - Andrew Lewis
Andrew joined UK SBS from the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council in 2018 after holding a range of roles across the Research Councils. He began his career in local authorities before joining the Natural Environment Research Council in 1998 as Chief Accountant. Other roles with the Research Councils include, Head of NERC Swindon Office and Director of Finance and Information Systems and Chief Operating Officer in EPSRC. In his current role Andrew is responsible for the provision of UK SBS Finance, Human Resources and Procurement services to our clients and undertakes the SRO role on a number of business critical projects. Andrew is a member of the Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy. Andrew is an independent member on the Audit and Risk Assurance Committee of the Higher Education Funding Council for Wales.
Finance Director - Crispin Dawe
Crispin has worked for UK SBS in Corporate Finance since 2009. He began his career with KPMG, qualifying as a Chartered Accountant (ICAEW). He then spent 3 years in finance roles with Thorn EMI and a further 16 years with Motorola, involved with international finance and business development. Crispin has a BSc in Genetics from the University of Nottingham.
Company Secretary - Caroline Jenkins
Caroline joined UK SBS in January 2015 and was appointed as Company Secretary in August 2016. After graduating from the University of Reading with a BSc in Environmental Biology, Caroline worked in events management before joining the City of London Corporation and later Innovate UK. She has over six years’ governance experience within both the public sector and local government and is currently studying for the Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators (ICSA) qualifying scheme qualification.
