Tim Knighton, Chair Non-Executive Director (independent)
Tim brings substantial experience of leading service delivery and implementing change within large, complex and fast moving organisations, including the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills and the Intellectual Property Office. He is also a qualified accountant.
Richard Semple Executive Director (CEO from UK SBS)
Richard joined UK SBS in 2018 after thirty three years as a Royal Engineer and senior officer in the British Army. In addition to strategic and policy development roles in the Ministry of Defence, he has spent much of his career with responsibility for the delivery of the Army’s engineering and information services across the world. Most recently, as a general officer, he held board level responsibilities for the Army’s equipment fleets, logistics and support services and as the Army’s first Chief Information Officer, he increased information exploitation and directed digital transformation across the organisation. As a technology leader with extensive experience in directing operations and complex programmes, Richard brings a valuable insight to UK SBS to maximise the potential of future shared services.
Alice Hurrell Non-Executive Director (from BEIS)
Alice joined the Civil Service in 1995 and has worked across a number of Government Departments and Agencies in roles in Operations, Finance and Project Delivery before becoming a Human Resources professional in 2005. Alice is currently the HR Director for the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy, which she joined in July 2016.
Emma Ferguson-Gould Non-Executive Director (from BEIS)
Neil Phimister Non-Executive Director (from UKRI)
Neil trained as a Chartered Accountant with a leading international firm. He then spent 20 years in the Telecommunications industry in senior operational Finance roles with Motorola and Nokia, joining STFC as their Executive Director, Finance, in 2014. Neil joined the new UKRI team as UKRI business partnering lead for Finance from 1 April.
Ruth Elliot Non-Executive Director (from UKRI)
Ruth is Finance and Commercial Director at UK Research and Innovation. Ruth started her career with Deloitte and then moved to the National Audit Office. Since that time, Ruth has worked in a number of finance roles across government. These have included leading finance service delivery in UK SBS from June 2013 to March 2015 as well as being Chief Financial Officer at Innovate UK immediately prior to taking up her current role. Ruth is also on the Board of Innovate UK Loans Limited and a local academy trust, with responsibility for two large secondary schools.
Graham McAlister Non-Executive Director (independent)
Graham has extensive operational experience in a tech-enabled environment. He began with his own software start-up and within three years floated it on the American stock market, NASDAQ. He led the Europe-wide digital transformation for Deluxe Digital, distributing movies over broadband to cinemas. Graham was a Director for HP UK, (Hewlett Packard) and has played a central role in digital transformation with cloud and cybersecurity at HP. Graham worked and lived in the US (California), South Africa and UK. He is originally from Zimbabwe and holds a BSc degree in Electrical Engineering from Cape Town University.
