Proud to Play Our Part

UK SBS has three principles, they capture what we do and how we do it. They also speak to the heart of why UK SBS employees are proud to play their part in supporting our clients and owners.

  • We believe in the value that partnership and our expertise play in helping our owners, BEIS and UKRI, achieve the best outcomes from sharing services.
  • Working with our owners, we provide a range of efficient and expert business services to meet their current and future needs.
  • We aim to be trusted partners; recognised for delivering value and benefits for our owners and to support the work they do for UK society and the economy.

Our Values

Working with colleagues in 2012 we agreed a set of values: our PACT. Company objectives have changed according to client needs over the years but our values remains relevant and strongly upheld across our working lives. They help us achieve our goals and deliver our business plan.

Perform as one team.
We all seek to understand our business and provide consistently excellent services.
Always respect.
We respect the contributions of everyone we work with and applaud the integrity that runs through everything we do.
Consider customers first.
We look beyond our tasks and aim to go the extra mile for our customers.
Take the initiative.
We encourage everyone to help continuously improve our services by sharing ideas and seeing them through.

Our history

UK Shared Business Services Ltd was created in 2007, and initially established by the seven UK Research Councils in a drive for greater efficiency and harmonisation of processes.

The Company now has 2 shareholders: The department for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy (BEIS), UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) incorporating the seven UK Research Councils, Innovate UK and Research England.

Both parties have agreed to continue joint ownership of UK SBS - acknowledging their ongoing commitment to the principles of shared services and enabling a programme of further business transformation and standardisation.
